Having to mess around with other components in order to make this work may mean that the change was not intended. Or perhaps it's the side effect of some internal changes and CIG is okay with it. When you buy or upgrade to a 300i and look in your hangar, there should be a customize button where you can then customize it (IDK what the exact customize options are). I believe you only get to do this customize once, so make sure you select what you want. I've done this exact thing and upgraded from aurora to 325a.
