This data will be published to the Shooters World website, as it is generated and proofed in SAAMI test barrels, and compared against SAAMI reference ammunition. I started at 41.5 gr and worked up in 1/2 gr increments. Haven't used RL- 17. 4. Apr 7, 2018 · Varget and 140 grain Accubonds was around 2750fps with good accuracy. RL16 was better than Varget with 140 grain Accubonds in my rifle at 2800fps. Although, Big Game was the best with the 140 grain Partitions getting around 2850fps. I found a load with Varget and 120 grain NBT, but only with magnum primers for 3000fps. I've not loaded the 140 Berger in the 7mm-08 but the problem i had was trying to get enough extruded powder like 4350 in the case to reach its max potential. I would use neither of them for shooting a 150gr bullet in 7mm-08, especially for a hunting load. Better choices would be H414, or Alliant Power Pro 2000, or one of the 4350's. You'll get better case fill, and higher velocities. When manual says "most accurate powder tested" it really means nothing to us.
I've loaded a LOT now for the 7mm-08. Great cartridge and easy to load for, especially from a Tikka. IMR 4350 will work very well. Use the 4895 for 120 grainers. Varget and 120's are classic whitetail fodder. Big Game works well with 120's too. I worked up loads with the 139 i-lock using the Winchester min to Max (51gr), I found 47 to 48 gr loads were printing 1moa groups.

Great powder in the 7-08 but I prefer the 140's. Accubonds or Partitions. I tried it with the 140 grain game king and pro hunter and it shot terrible in my rifle. The loads I pulled out of manuals 30 years ago are gone; the most current manuals tell me that the 7×57 Mauser now lags about 200 fps behind the 7mm-08 Rem. This is based on pressures now considered safe in older actions, not on case capacity, and not on working pressure in modern actions.
