They make a large hole which is easy to get your needles through but if your goal is fine leatherwork you will probably move on to pricking iron or stitching irons. I personally use Blanchard irons but I don't think they are any better than some random $15 chinese pricking iron from ebay. There just weren't many other options when I started.

Hello all, I'm trying to decide between a set of Kevin Lee premium pricking irons and Ks blade, French style at 3mm, for chrome tanned leather 0,8mm to 1.8mm mostly, i need to go through and not just mark the leather.I much prefer thinner thread to what most users recommend. Once I moved down a size I haven't gone back. 4mm irons I use 0.45mm (started with 0.6/0.65). 3mm irons I use 0.35mm (started with 0.45mm).
