I partially found a solution. With WiFi already connected, go to settings > reset > HomeKit. In the HomeKit app, add a new accessory and the thermostat is supposed to generate and display a HomeKit code. The problem I had was that it would re-generate a new HomeKit code every few seconds before I could even enter it into HomeKit manually.8/11/22.
