I picked a trailer and about 30 mins of driving 60-65 it shuttered and rpms dropped but I gave it some diesel and it went back to normal driving. Then about 10 seconds later it just died like someone turned off the key. WW above is spot on. First check for diagnostic codes. If none, then my first guess would be a spark problem. You might be able to use a spare spark plug to check for visible spark during cranking. I had the same problem on an older (than yours) Ford truck. I did the spark test and it sparked ok, but produced an orange-ish spark.

Last edited by svdpwi; 11-15-2008 at 11:23 PM. svdpwi - one other thing to check - make sure the fuel rail bypass valve is operating correctly. If it's stuck open - hard to maintain pressure. The quick and easy check is to pull the vacuum line off the valve - if there's any fuel that oozes out - it's bad.

Ground pin #6 of the self-test plug and turn on the key. The gauge should read 40psi.
