I have a 2013 JKU with 50K miles, engine seams to run hot, temp is around 220F, but at times when I open the hood, the hood prop is extremely hot to the touch and need a glove to use. Took it for an oil change and coolant love was very low; below the low level. No leaks or pools of fluid are ever seen.U might jack it up and check how free the wheels rotate. That would create some heat depending on how bad the caliper was sticking without necessarily much associated smell especially if your running ceramic pads. The temp gauge on your dash is just an implied temp, not an actual reading. Your EVIC should show actual coolant temps. But to answer your question; yes, the 3.6 runs hot. Apparently that is where it is most efficient and happy.
