And I suggest that you should not lift one side of the car too high or you risk cracking the windshield. At least I've read it on our local forum.

As you suggested I lift one side, place the stand under the weld, do the other side. Only front or back, never both. In my gen 1 there is a area just behind the tires, a little rectangle for the jack to fit into.
