Sep 20, 2021 · I've used pellets for years and I'm a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kinda guy. Hornady 300grain XTP's in .452 absolutely knock deer down! No blood trailing required. The 240 grain work well but not like the 300's. This what all of my little circles shoot and they are all CVA's. Accura's, Optima's and a Wolf. The XTP's shoot great in all of them.

I find myself wondering if there's something better then a CVA inline. I think they've got a great marketing campaign, but after using an Optima V2 for several seasons since 2018, I am unimpressed. Biggest issue I've with mine is, I think, the hammer sear. Randomly doesn't ****, hammer won't engage. Clean or dirty, doesnt matter.

I have a .50 cal Optima V2 and it's all I'd ever need in an inline muzzleloader. I've used 200 TC shockwaves over 100 gr BH 209. When hunting where bear would also be in season, I've used 300 gr Hornady SST over 110 gr of BH 209. Usable 100 yard accuracy from both. The 300 gr Hornady really flattens small deer.
