an H&R Model 158 made in 1963 will not have a serial number on the reciever. this is the first year production of this model before it was turned into a combo model. jim is correct top dollar in this condition would be about $100. if in better shape it would be more desireable because of the year it was manufactured.

We will need pictures (all sides, and sharp/clear as possible), and the info on top of the barrel typed out exactly as it is stamped. H&R Collector. Location: Spearfish, SD. Scott Duff's book "The M1 Garand Serial Numbers and Data Sheets" shows H&R 5488548 having a barrel date of 7/54, 496827 with a 6/54 barrel. The lowest 6/54 barrel is 4746788 and the highest 7/54 barrel is 5500394. My guess is that your rifle was probably assembled in mid-1954. Chuck.

After '68 full serial numbers were required. But H&R had a date stamping prefix from 1940 until when Remington took over but didn't always put full serial numbers on their long guns prior to '68. That "AA" would be 1964. For proof - the 158 Topper was only made between 1962 and 1973. H&R Collector.

The serial numbers for the TRAPPER follow the sequence for the 1906. 1906 was offered circa 1907 to 1941, while the TRAPPER first appears circa 1924.
A 7 shooter in that serial number range would confirm that as will the stamping of .22 W.R.F. CTG on the right side of the barrel and W.R.F. stamped into the breech end of the cylinder. The pics indicate that your piece is in v.good-excellent condition. I have two of these: s/n 537062 on the original frame and 570503 on the "RICE" frame.
