So if you have only the base game then you have to buy a Journeyman Mason feat first and then a Gatekeeper feat in order to be able to build a gate. Journeyman Mason is lvl 20 feat and Gatekeeper is lvl 27. I like to use the stable gate frame with pillars with the half door to use as an entry way through fencing.
