Hello and thank you. I'm not sure of the Ariens grade. What part of the machine is it for?If you are looking for a lubricant for the auger gear case in the front of the machine, a light weight motor oil will work, 5-20 or 10-20 will do.
As for the gear oil, I have read Ariens L-2 which it calls for is obsolete and has been replaced with Ariens L-3 Synthetic severe duty gear lube. It comes with 5W-30 engine oil but it is not synthetic. When I change the oil for the first time I will replace it with Mobile 1 sythetic oil.Product Description. For the auger gear case (I also have aluminum) it calls for Ariens L2 which has now been superseded by Ariens L3 synthetic severe-duty gear lube.You need a gl5 differential oil and preferably not a gl4 gear oil.
