The other 85% of the oil goes to the bearings, etc. If you have a OLD filter that is partly plugged with dirt, crud, etc .. it might only let 10% leak off so you would get 90% of the oil going to the bearings and that might be an extra 1-2 psi on the gauge. The dipstick appears to be correct, but when I change oil, it only takes a little over 2 quarts before the level on the dipstick shows it to be at the top of the "full" mark. There are no large dents on the oil pan to cause it to read high. Those old Oil Pull tractors used oil as the coolant and were able to run much hotter. Of course the upper limit of how warm you can run an engine is dependent of how much heat the various engine components, including the oil, can handle. Predetonation can be an issue with hot engines too.
